Folens Publishers: Spell It!

Folens Publishers assigned Seedling to produce digital materials for their English Literacy programme, “Spell It!”, which is used by 1st to 6th class students in Irish schools.

The Brief

Folens assigned Seedling to produce digital materials for their English Literacy programme, “Spell It!”, which is used by 1st to 6th class students in Irish schools. Our goal was to design a series of practice spelling games that would complement and strengthen the programme’s learning objectives, and visually align with its existing robot-themed book designs.

Delivery

The solution for this project utilized a combination of our content development services and the Seedling Generate authoring platform.

  • Together with Folens, we selected six games from our template library that were most appropriate to adapt for this project.
  • We created storyboards to visualise the robot theme in the game templates.
  • We designed a set of robot characters and game scenarios to complement the existing ‘Spell It!’ book illustrations.
  • We co-developed a project plan with Folens for the development of 95 games.

End Result

Folens availed of our bespoke design and development services, and also benefited from using our authoring platform. In total, 95 games were produced from concept to delivery, in just 3 months. The production efficiencies that the Seedling Generate authoring platform provides, and its simplicity of use, propelled the project forward.

Products & Services:

‘Spell It!’ is now a popular resource across the Primary school sector in Ireland, and we’re proud to have enabled the digital components of the programme.

How Folens used the Seedling Generate authoring platform to create 95 games in 3 months

We integrated the new robot template designs into the Seedling Generate authoring platform and provided the Folens team with ‘editor access’. A single member of the Folens team produced the first iteration of 89 games in under two weeks. Others in the team edited and adjusted the games from within the platform. The editorial team shared, reviewed and approved the games over another two week period. Once approved, the games were output as HTML5 packages and uploaded to the Folens’ LMS by their IT team.
